Taylor Hicks was the winner of American Idol’s fifth season in an epic climax in which over 63 million votes were cast and 37 million people tuned in to one of the highest rated TV broadcasts of the last ten years. Since his unlikely triumph on the show, Hicks has remained one of the most popular winners in the Idol history, with a list of achievements that includes recording an album that went platinum, writing a best-selling memoir, starring in a hit Broadway revival of Grease, and performing with a murder’s row of musical icons that includes Gladys Knight, Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, The Allman Brothers, and Earth Wind and Fire. Now Hicks has pulled off another huge achievement by becoming the first Idol winner (or contestant) to star in a Las Vegas residency, inviting fans to experience his unique and electrifying live show in an intimate venue at Bally’s running through August 20, 2012.
Hicks has quite the history with Las Vegas. He happened to be in the city at the same time that auditions for Idol were taking place, and he tried out for the show on a whim. The rest, as they say, is history as the country fell in love with his uniquely American sound which fuses together Country, Southern Soul, R&B, and classic Blues.
Hicks and his smoking five piece band are bringing the gray haired star’s signature “soul patrol” sound and moves to the intimate stage at The Indigo in Bally’s, performing an eclectic mix of original tunes from his first and upcoming records, hits he performed on American Idol, and covers of Las Vegas themed classics.
True fans can sign up for VIP tickets, which includes a meet and greet with Taylor himself. But even casual fans should grab tickets ASAP, as the first few shows sold out quickly. The residency is scheduled to end on August 20, 2012, after which you’ll miss the chance to experience the Idol winner in a uniquely intimate summer residency in a city that helped launch his career.
