Mamma Mia!, the smash hit jukebox musical featuring the insanely catchy music of ABBA, is back in Las Vegas at The Tropicana’s brand new theater.
Since the original production premiered in London’s West End in 1999 (where it still plays to packed houses) and opened on Broadway in 2001 (and has thrilled New York audiences with over 5,000 performances),Mamma Mia! has become a global phenomenon. Over 54 million people have enjoyed the show in 14 languages in 400 cities across the world, and the movie adaptation, starring Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, became a smash hit as well. The original Las Vegas production of the show played at Mandalay Bay from 2003- 2009, and became the longest running West End/ Broadway musical in Las Vegas history. Now the smash hit show is back at The Tropicana to delight audiences all over again.
The musical tells the story of a girl trying to figure out the identity of her father by secretly inviting three men from her mother’s past to her wedding on a beautiful Greek island, leading to a series of misunderstandings and hilarious hijinks. The fun and romantic romp is fueled by musical numbers where the cast sings high energy versions of ABBA classics like “Take a Chance on Me,” “Money, Money, Money,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Dancing Queen,” and the titular tune. If you haven’t listened to ABBA in awhile, be warned: the songs carry a high risk of causing full on dance parties to break out in the audience.
The bullet proof classic tunes of ABBA and the equally romantic and madcap story have turned Mamma Mia! into one of the most successful musicals ever, and now Las Vegas visitors have another chance to experience the toe-tapping energy of the global phenomenon at The Tropicana.
