Steel Panther

The spirit of 80’s hair metal is alive and well in Sin City with Steel Panther, the hard rocking headbangers who play electrifying weekend gigs at both The House of Blues in Mandalay Bay and at Green Valley Ranch.

There are conflicting stories about the origins of the rockers. Some claim they were formed in 2000 under the name Metal Shop (then changed their name to Metal Skool before setting on Steel Panther), and gained a legion of fans hungry for the fun and swagger that’s been missing from rock and roll for too long through their weekly performances at the Sunset Strip’s legendary Key Club.

But legends and unauthorized biographies tell another story, one in which Steel Panther has been actively rocking the Sunset Strip since the 80’s, when they missed their first shot at stardom by getting wasted on the night of an industry showcase (where, according to the myth, Jane’s Addiction was signed instead). Rumors that an accident involving hairspray also impeded the band’s inevitable march to fame are also unsubstantiated.

Whichever origin story you choose to believe, the band has finally found a loyal audience of adoring fans who rock out at their two weekend gigs in Vegas and their Monday night sessions at The Key Club. Steel Panther have mastered the look, sound and swagger of 80’s hair metal, sporting feathered haircuts and spandex pants as they rock out to original tunes like Death to all but Metal, Stripper Girl, Love Rocket and electrifying covers of hits like Guns N Roses’ Sweet Child o’ Mine, Motley Crue’s Kickstart My Heart, Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name and Van Halen’s Jump.

With their over the top stage theatrics, irreverent lyrics and hard partying rock star attitude, Steel Panther has gained an international legion of “Fanthers,” while a wildly diverse group of celebrities, including Drew Carey, Kelly Clarkson, Kenny Loggins, Criss Angel, Pink, Tom Morello, Avril Lavigne and Paul Stanley, have appeared onstage with the band. So whether you choose to believe they’re a mythological group that’s been around since the 80’s heyday of hair metal on the Sunset Strip or that they formed a decade ago to pay loving and irreverent tribute to the music they love, you won’t want to miss out on the head-bangingly good time you’ll have at a Steel Panther Las Vegas show.
