KA by Cirque Du Soleil
Cirque Du Soleil's epic KA melds puppetry, martial arts, pyrotechnics, and acrobatics into an action-packed adventure unfolding on one of the most unique and state of the art stages in the world.
Unlike some of the other Cirque shows, this one has a linear storyline that moves from beginning to middle to end with a clear good vs. evil theme. This is unique for Cirque, which tends to be much more abstract in theme and plot.
What is similar to Cirque's other productions is that the show is almost completely visual, with very minimal dialogue. The story begins with a set of royal twins who are attacked by neighboring warlords. The siblings are separated during the attack and must reclaim their other selves, their home and their heritage. The story about fulfilling destiny, overcoming odds, and triumphing over danger.
As the story unfolds, we watch the twins and warriors battle on numerous fields on a stage built to transform from beach to steep mountainside, raging ocean, jungle and other dramatic terrains.
Martial artists and acrobats challenge the laws of gravity as they fight each other for control of the land and give chase to the Twins. The Twin Sister and her Nursemaid race to the top of a steep cliff as the stage tilts 12 degrees per second, causing some of the characters to plummet to dramatically.
If the lifting, tilting, ever-dynamic stage of the show isn't enough to keep your eyes popping, maybe some of the props will, such as the Wheel of Death slave cage, which houses acrobats who keep the cage wheels spinning around a central hub and make it look more like an extreme amusement ride rather than part of a stage production. Or watch as the Forest People transform a simple tent into a flying bird that helps Twin Sister escape the ever-pursuing archers. As if that wasn't enough, the finale features a massive pyrotechnic spectacle.
The stage is so unique and expensive, it's nearly impossible prohibitive for the producers to take the show on the road, which makes Cirque Du Soleil's epic is an only in Vegas experience.
