The popular Las Vegas tribute show, Hitzville The Show, is named after Motown Records founder Berry Gordy’s first company headquarters in Detroit, which was given the legendary nickname “Hitsville U.S.A.” because of the remarkable number of chart-topping classics that came from the company.
The Vegas tribute show pays tribute to the famous Motown sound and everything it influenced, paying homage beyond the 1960’s by delving into disco and finally Tina Turner’s solo career in the 1980’s. It’s a journey through time, eras, and sounds.
The show is produced by Jin-Jin Reeves, who often performs onstage, showing off her astonishing pipes as she hits all the right notes while singing a diverse group of hits. A five piece band whose members once played with Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and Diana Ross back the singers onstage. And all of the costuming is there too, from matching pastel colored suits to Turner’s big hair of the “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” days.
If you’re a casual Motown fan, you’ll wind up clapping your hands and snapping your fingers to old standards from The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight and the Four Tops. While you’ll hear megahits like “My Guy,” “Natural Woman” and “What’s Love Go To Do With It?,” true aficionados of the era will be pleasantly surprised by covers of lesser known songs and tributes to more obscure artists. There’s something for everyone in this electrifying musical journey.
