The Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight, has come to Vegas to claim her crown as music royalty. Knight’s new show at The Tropicana, “A Mic and a Light,” strips the stage of the big production elements that clutter many other Vegas headliner shows to focus on the iconic singer and her timeless music.
Knight belts out her classics like Midnight Train to Georgia, I Heard it Through the Grapevine and I’ve got to Use my Imagination, as well as her latest hit, Settle, backed by an eleven piece band. Adding to the nostalgia of every performance, Gladys is joined onstage for many songs by Merald “Bubba” Knight, her brother and an original member of her iconic backing group, The Pips.
Other than Bubba and the band, the show is a simple and intimate showcase that puts the spotlight fully on Gladys and her voice, which is still stunning to this day. One of the great divas of all time, Knight has been performing for over 40 years but still brings tremendous energy and soul to each and every performance.
The staging may be simple, but who needs a flashy production spectacle when you can witness the human spectacle of Gladys Knight passionately belting out the timeless love ballads, Motown hits and soul powered jams that make up her legendary songbook?
