Music legends Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra never actually performed together. In fact, the closest they ever got to working together was when they recorded a duet of Gershwin’s I’ve Got a Crush on You… but even in that case, the two icons recorder their tracks separately, never singing in the same room together. Expert Babs and Frank impersonators Sharon Owens and Sebastian Anzaldo knew that an onstage meeting of the two legends would be a music lover’s dream come true, so they’ve done then next best thing by creating their version of the fantasy team up.
Barbra and Frank: The Concert That Never Was imagines what a meeting of the two iconic singers would be like, down to the witty banter and tension between two big egos that would have certainly been part of the show. But the most impressive part of the fantasy concert is how accurately they capture the voices and performance styles of the two superstars.
The fantastical Barbra and Frank Las Vegas show opens with a cover of the Gershwin duet, but in their version, Frank and Barbra actually sing I’ve Got a Crush on You together. After the opening duet, Owens takes audiences on a journey through Streisand hits like People, Papa, Can You Hear Me, Hello, Dolly!, Woman in Love and more from the diva’s long and storied career. After that, Anzaldo takes the stage an inhabits Ol’ Blue Eyes while belting out versions of Come Fly with Me, My Way, Strangers in the Night, Memories, That’s Life and many more.
But the real centerpiece of the concert is the final section, when Owens and Anzaldo share the stage and perform a series of pitch perfect duets, covering showstoppers like Somewhere, The Lady is a Tramp and, of course, New York, New York.
Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra never shared a stage in their brilliant careers, but Barbra and Frank: The Concert That Never Was at The Westin Casuarina in Las Vegas is like watching an alternate reality in which you can witness all the electricity, passion and sheer force of true star power that would have resulted from a real life onstage meeting of the two iconic superstars.
